SERMON ON THE MOUNT (WEEK 8)
My central core of being a follower of Christ is to learn how to live in the Kingdom ways. Kingdom ways will not look physically like the world ways.
[Matthew 6:19-21 NLT] 19 "Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Storing up treasures in heaven isn't about earning salvation or banking spiritual points—it’s about living in a way that reflects God’s kingdom, with hearts set on things that last forever.
Treasure - θησαυρός - he place in which goods and precious things are collected and laid up
What are these precious things:
Jesus invites us to loosen our grip on what fades and invest in what lasts forever. That means:
Giving generously.
Loving deeply.
Living faithfully.
Trusting Him more than your money and needs.
A spiritual law: your heart is tethered to what you treasure.
[Matthew 6:24 NLT] "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Goal of sermon on the mount was for the Israelites (followers of Christ) to be transformed by God’s wisdom
AKA: Sermon on the mount so that they could represent God’s Kingdom before all the nations.
“If you give yourself to the world, the world will never satisfy you. You were not made for it. -Charles Spurgeon
“Earthly goods deceive the human heart into believing that they give it security and freedom from worry. But in truth, they are what cause anxiety.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Final Thought - “I have to bloom where we are planted.”
