Galatians: Chapter Five

  • Egg, Flip Flop, New Clothing, Notes From Dad Abba

  • STAY FREE

  • Verse 1: Christ has set us free, so stay free and don’t get tied up in slavery law.

  • Verse 4: If you are trying to make yourself right with God by keeping the law, you will find yourself cut off from Christ and falling away from the joy of life in Christ.

    • This verse does not teach that a believer loses salvation by one mistake; rather, it warns against replacing faith in Christ with self-justification by law.

  • Verse 6: What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

  • Paul warns, "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough" (Galatians 5:9), illustrating how false teaching or sin spreads pervasively, like yeast rising through bread.

[Gal 5:13-14 NLT] 13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself.”

  • Verse 16: Let the Spirit guide your life so you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

  • Verse 19: When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results will be clear!

  • Too often we YIELD to the sinful ways when we know the Spirit is leading, encouraging, admonishing us to STOP.

[Gal 5:22-23 NLT] 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

[Gal 5:24 NLT] 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

  • We have a choice to either STOP & rely on the Holy Spirit or to YIELD to this sinful nature. The power of the spirit within us will guide us to live a life filled with peace, love and joy. If we allow our sinful nature to dominate us, we will live life in chaos, strife, and bitterness.
