ADVENT WEEK 3: JOY

Psalm 16:11 (NLT): You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence.

2 Corinthians 6:10 (NLT): Our hearts ache, but we always have joy.

Galatians 5:22 (NLT): The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace…

John 15:10–11 (NLT): If you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love… Yes, your joy will overflow!

  • Biblical joy:

    • It is not a fleeting emotion or the result of favorable circumstances. It is a deep, God-centered gladness and settled confidence that flows from knowing, trusting, and walking with the Lord—regardless of external conditions.

    • It is a Spirit-given, enduring delight rooted in God’s presence, promises, and purposes, not in comfort, success, or ease.

  • Our Joy is directly linked to the love, peace and hope we have toward the Father (Advent).

  • Joy is found in participating in “life in Christ”

  • Joy comes in knowing whom I love, who loves me, and how I respond.

  • My Joy doesn't dissipate when chaos and bedlam abound

  • Joseph’s joy:

    • Was quiet, not celebratory

    • Was obedient, not emotional

    • Was anchored in God’s promise, not public approval

  • “Joseph teaches us that joy comes from welcoming God’s will, even when it disrupts our own. In accepting Mary and Jesus, Joseph discovered a deeper joy rooted in trust.” — Pope Francis
