WIDOWS & ORPHANS
Understanding why God holds widows and orphans dear provides a clear picture for us — as Christ followers, we are called to emulate.
In the scriptures, we witness Christ’s unwavering dedication to widows and those who were marginalized or “down and out,” thereby elevating individuals who were often overlooked by society.
1 Timothy 5:3 NLT: Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her.
Throughout the New Testament, the treatment of widows serves as a clear demonstration of genuine faith. It showcases that followers of Christ embody God’s compassionate heart by safeguarding, honoring, and providing for those who are most vulnerable.
Psalm 68:5 NLT: Father to the fatherless, defender of widows--this is God, whose dwelling is holy.
In Acts, we witness the establishment of the church, the vessel through which the Holy Spirit works and imparts the essence of God, continuing His ministry of compassion to those who are vulnerable and in need.
James 1:27 NLT: Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
Throughout Scripture, widows and orphans represent those who are vulnerable, overlooked, in need, lonely, and unable to protect or speak for themselves.
