Easter 2026

In the aftermath of Christ’s death, the disciples/followers were scattered, uncertain, fearful, scared and grieving.  They were without direction and confusion was abounding.  What were the unique elements that Christ spoke when He appeared to them after His resurrection that bolster their faith?

Passover  - more than a meal, washing of feet and “the Lords supper”

John 13:34 NLT - 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

John 14:1 NLT - 1 "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

John 14:12 NLT - 12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

John 14:15 NLT - 15 "If you love me, obey my commandments.

When Jesus appears after his resurrection, he calls his followers to love him, trust him, believe in him, and obey him.

1. Love the risen Christ

Jesus first meets people in their grief, fear, and failure. He restores them by his presence.

The risen Jesus does not push away wounded people; he draws them in with love.

2. Trust the risen Christ

Jesus proves that he is faithful. He promised to rise, and he did,  his proof and aforementioned trust in him is evident in His multiple appearances.

Trust is believing that Jesus keeps his word even when the path is confusing.

When life is uncertain, the resurrection reminds us that Jesus is still in control.

3. Believe the risen Christ

Jesus does not leave his followers in doubt. He reveals his wounds, speaks directly to Thomas.

Believing in the Christ comes when we are around to see the things of Christ and follow his ways.

4.  Obey the risen Christ

Jesus reminds His followers that the Holy Spirit has come and will lead them into all truth and obedience to Christ’s ways.

He in-trusts to them responsibility to carry for the message of who Christ was live in his ways so others will see Him in them.

If we really believe Jesus is alive, then we will follow his voice, serve his people, and live on mission.

The risen Christ calls us to love him deeply, trust him fully, believe him wholeheartedly, and obey him joyfully.
