Questions of Jesus (Week 5) - What are you discussing as you walk along?

What are you discussing so intently as you walk along? What things?

  • Look for moments that are “intimate and transformative”

  • “Luke 24:13-35” ESV

[Luke 24:17 NLT] 17 He asked them, "What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?" They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.

  • The walk to Emmaus, is shrouded in a larger umbrella concept about who Christ is to us. He meets us where we are, joins us in our moments of confusion, and listens to our stories.

The walk to Emmaus:

    1. They were going about their daily life.

    2. Followers of Christ.

    3. Talking about current things in their life (sharing with each other)

    4. Most likely the were confused, saddened, and perplexed.

    5. Willing to share the story of Christ in their life...

    6. Their hopes had no become askew.

  • "The whole story is about the gradual dawning of a new reality, the breaking in of a new world, and it happens in the most ordinary of settings: on the road, in conversation, over a meal.” - N..T Wright

  • We see these transformative moments of Christ scattered throughout the New Testament!

  • When Jesus broke bread with them it was a reminder that spiritual insights often come unexpectedly, even in the midst of ordinary life.

  • Be honest with Him about your doubts, fears, and hopes.

  • The question of Christ on the Road to Emmaus were not intended to evoke a response, they were intended for introspection, belief and hope.
